Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and cardiac scans, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures, explaining the process, positioning patients, and ensuring patient comfort and cooperation throughout the imaging process.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper calibration, quality control, and safety procedures are followed to produce high-quality images.
- Adjust ultrasound equipment settings and parameters to optimize image quality and diagnostic accuracy, while minimizing artifact and noise.
- Capture and interpret ultrasound images in real-time, identifying anatomical structures, abnormalities, and pathological findings for review by interpreting physicians.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and responses to ultrasound procedures, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or complications promptly.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare providers to review ultrasound findings, discuss patient care plans, and facilitate appropriate follow-up studies or interventions.
- Document ultrasound procedures, patient information, and imaging findings accurately and completely, maintaining electronic medical records (EMRs) or radiology information systems (RIS).
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain cleanliness and organization of the ultrasound department, including imaging rooms, equipment, and supplies.
- Adapt to different ultrasound modalities, patient populations, and healthcare settings as you travel to new locations, demonstrating flexibility and proficiency in your sonography practice.
Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent from an accredited program.
- Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent certifying agency and endorsement for applicable procedures (AB, OB, FE, AE, PE, VT, BR, PS, etc.)
- State licensure or registration as a sonographer, with no restrictions or disciplinary actions.
- Prior experience working as a sonographer in diagnostic imaging settings, with proficiency in a variety of ultrasound examinations.
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and pathology, with the ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Excellent patient care skills, including communication, positioning, and patient assessment, to ensure optimal imaging outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced ultrasound department.
- Willingness to travel to different locations on short notice and work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet imaging department staffing needs.
- Commitment to upholding professional ethics, standards of practice, and regulatory compliance in sonography.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between healthcare facilities.
