Ultrasound Technologist-Richardson

Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations, including localization for minor surgical procedures (biopsies, aspirations, etc.) utilizing various types of equipment in order to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical and pathological data for the diagnosis of disease. Works closely with radiologist and referring physician.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure the highest level of patient care possible.
a. Display respect and concern for all patients
b. Assist patients as needed throughout the clinic
c. Follow HIPPA guidelines
2. Always verifies the appropriate procedure to be performed by checking the physician’s orders on the patient’s chart with the requisition, and contacts the physician if there are any discrepancies.
3. Follows departmental procedure manual to ensure that all standard views are taken; refers to the requisition for any special instructions from the physician or Radiologist; always scans completely. Ensures exams are complete in RIS and properly transferred on PACS. Can order, edit and complete in RIS.
4. Regularly checks equipment, accessories, and supplies; keeps area stocked at all times; cleans and disinfects equipment after each patient use; cleans area daily. Maintaining QC & QA equipment/log in area/ Maintains Equipment Preventive Maintenance.
5. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of equipment capabilities. Adjusts techniques and parameters as necessary to obtain high quality results.
6. May assist in clinical practicum training of students, and evaluates their performance, if requested.
7. Renders first aid to radiology patients when necessary; notifies appropriate personnel of emergency situations.
8. Performs ultrasound diagnostic procedure as prescribed by physician.
9. Prepares Ultrasound documents to be reviewed by the radiologist.
10. Cleans and disinfects equipment and room after each use. Stocks rooms as needed.
11. Maintains supply levels and logs requests for supply orders.
12. Regularly reviews the clinical and departmental policies and procedures manual and works within the guidelines.
13. Works cooperatively, as part of the team, to maintain a work environment that promotes mutual respect and professionalism.
14. Demonstrates an ability to solve job-related problems such as: equipment malfunctions, alternate patient positioning, different views, and the realization of equipment and patient limitations.
15. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
16. Other duties as requested.
- EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma. Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School. ARDMS registered (must be registered within one year of employment).
- EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 1 year ultrasound experience preferred, proficient in general and vascular studies. Must be able to independently perform multitude of exams using a standard protocol.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in any specialty, (AB) preferred. ARDMS with the capability of scanning venous, arterial Doppler and carotid Doppler.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist, Texas Department of Health - Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) WORKING : Normal operating room and interventional angiography conditions. Exposure to blood and body fluids. Follows Infection Control Guidelines including Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions. Hepatitis B vaccine preferred.. Follows departmental dress code.
